Pretty cool place, I've missed a couple of times because it's surrounded by a couple of other Asian restaurants. I can't believe I just found this place! It's pretty sweet. It's like a restaurant and boutique all in one. It was my first time here, so with that.... The food was pretty good. I had the cheese Rangoons, a chicken dish that I don't particularly remember which I got. But it was pretty good. Better than most places, great prices. Kenneth at the front was very friendly and knew a while lot about the different artifacts they had in the restaurant, like an old clock they had before am radio was invented.

Okay so everybody that said this is place was good totally misled me. The service was good and they were busy which is usually a good sign. However, the food was awful. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, which is usually my go to for gauging new Chinese restaurants. The rice was okay. The chicken looked like Tyson chicken tenders. Like straight from the microwave to your plate kind of Tyson chicken tenders. Oh but they were garnished with old carrots and cabbage so that’s cool. Gross. My wife ordered the general chicken and being awesome she shared her plate with me. That was a mistake. It had sauce that looked like it would be very tasty. False. The chicken was drenched in brown water gravy that tasted like literally nothing. Two words: hotdog water. The fortune cookie was the best part. 1/10.

The food was delicious, as it always is, but the service was so so. My children were more helpful than our waiter was. He never did bring us any of the delicious extras, like the spicy mushrooms or the sweet n low, that we asked for.

I’ve travelled the nation tasting Chinese restaurants in America, and must say that this ranks among the top. This is wonderfully seasoned, not over salted American Chinese food with palpably authentic Chinese roots. They also do outstandingly well with custom orders of traditional Chinese dishes—egg and tomato soup with a sprinkle of green onions is what we requested—and service is impeccable too. Visited during Christmas, and the place was decorated perfectly. It’s the oldest Chinese restaurant in Texas, and definitely one of the best. Highly recommend!

It's been in San Antonio a very long time. Decent food. Decent prices. Eat local. Eat it often!

this is literally the worst chinese food i have ever eaten. i don’t know why they have such good ratings- the food quality is awful (overcooked and just tastes spoiled) and their service is very poor. i will not be returning and will warn people against coming here.

The service was fantastic, as always! We celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday there last night and the entire staff was nothing but welcoming and attentive. Kenneth went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our time. Thank you to everyone there, I really appreciate the great customer service!

Great lunch specials, service is super fast! If your looking for a cheap lunch, a place to meet clients or go out with co-workers this is it.This place is a popular lunch spot and the kitchen is prepared. How can you tell? Many times less than 5 minutes pass between ordering and food arriving at your table.Dishes are full of flavor and crisp crunchy vegetables. Some of their entrees have a unique sauce to them I haven't had anywhere else. This place has been around for a long time and there's reason why. You cant beat it for the price, especially at lunch.

Hung Fong has been around forever for a reason. Great food! San Antonio icon. My wife and I had Lemon Chicken and Beef and Broccoli and it was great. The service was impeccable. Can't wait to go back again.

It was our first time coming here. The service was great. The staff was friendly and our waiter (didn't get his name ðŸ™) was awesome ðŸ˜! We got the family order for 4 n it was enough for our family of 5 (the little ones are 5 & 7 and don't really eat much). The food was delicious! We had chicken w/almonds (tasty), orange chicken (actually orange n tasty, not too spicy) for $4 more, spicy beef (which was tolerable, not too spicy), and sweet & sour chicken. The egg rolls were ok.Overall loved the place & will come back!

Crazy that we haven't visited Hung Fong in years. It's still terrific. Best Chinese restaurant in the San Antonio area, especially reasonably priced. We will be putting it high on our regular eating out venues.

Great atmosphere and really friendly staff from the servers to the cashier. The food is a great value and delicious. I need to come here more often.

Worst sesame chicken I have ever had. I wouldn’t call it sesame chicken, and if you google what that should be, I’ll tell you that you will not get that here. I was very disappointed. It wasn’t bad, but it was extremely mislabeled. The chicken was more similar to heavily fried chicken that you would find at a diner, and the pieces were just sitting in a bed of brown and gross cooking oil. Two stars, because maybe their other dishes have merit.

Great food and service, even when busy

Consistently good. I’ve been coming here for 20 years plus - I’ve never had a complaint about the quality of food, the service or the restaurant. Today our server was excellent, he helped us order an import beer, he was professional and friendly. My husband and I shared a poo poo platter (so worth it, it’s a lot of tasty finger foods) and the hunan rice - which was all perfect. I’ve never tasted anything as good as their hot oil.

Great food and excellent customer service !!

Every time I get there the old lady up front just walks to the back. Don't take my order or tell me to hold on. I end up just walking out. Do go here too many other places to spend your hard earned money. Never going back again!

Good food and friendly staff has not changed since I was a kid

Although a bit of a Broadway institution, Hung Fong’s food is just not that tasty. I may be a tough critic because I lived in China for many years, and even street food there had a better taste than the 3-4 dishes I have tried at this place. On the other hand, my mood this evening may have more to do with our server dropping a dirty knife on my arm, staining my sweater with sauce and then not even bothering to offer me a clean napkin to clean it off, never mind not apologizing. Certainly, there are far better Chinese restaurants in the city, and I go to this one only when it’s my friends’ turn to pick a restaurant for a dinner meeting. Even they commented that the server should have said sorry and offered to clean my sweater. All that being said, it does have some fun touches such as lucky bamboo and fashion bling.

Food was Fantastic. Birthday girl enjoyed a family dinner on her 16th B-day. Thank y'all.

Place was pretty good for first time visit. When you first get there looks little hidden. You do have to walk couple steps get entrance. However, you go pass the door have full restaurant. Place was clean and great service. Cho Mein and Orange Chicken was very good. Combination rice was not needs little work on the flavor. Nonetheless, worth stopping by try something new. Will definitely stop if in the area.

Oldest Chinese Restaurant in San Antonio. Been coming here for ages. Food is fantastic as always.

Went once and ordered lemon chicken and got violently ill. Went again years later and it was awesome. Went again and ordered pepper steak and was burping egg sulfur taste and was nauseous the rest of the day. Will never go back. Now that i know better i don't even want to imagine what went into preparing my food

Great!! Haven't been in a while bcuz the food was not good, but things have changed and the food is really good now. Went back on a recommendation from a friend and I'm so glad I did. Keep up the good work and great food!

Very good Chinese food. They claim to be the oldest Chinese restaurant in Texas. We enjoyed reading about the history on the menu. Authentic, tasty, very good service, and clean.

Always love coming here. Love the Mandarin Chicken, the sauce is just spicy enough, and very tasty. The Egg rolls and potstickers are tasty as well. Fast service, and friendly.

I have eaten here quite a few times, and it has been wonderful! I love the Shrimp with Bacon, I have never had anything quite like it! Staff is very quick and friendly, food always comes out hot and delicious! Try the Beef and Broccoli if you don't try Shrimp and Bacon! I will be back for sure.

I only get Lemon Chicken, for the pass 30 years. Last time the chicken wasn't so good. This time it was yummy.
Marjorie Cortez
My honeys favorite Chinese restaurant. He has great memories with his mother. This restaurant is historic and consistent.

About the only thing that tastes good to me at this restaurant is the chicken. I avoid the beef; it just doesn't taste right. At least the Lemon Chicken is on lunch special 4 days a week, and their lemon chicken is great. (I only eat here at lunch, since it's near my workplace but not my home.)

Terrible customer service over the phone and put me on hold three times yesterday. I was unable to get the food for a family of 17 people so I went ahead and ordered pizza and wings much faster. The lady that answered the phone does not really care for business if she puts people on hold. Her lose is someone else’s gain.

Very disappointed, noodles we're over cooked, the waitress was very Rude and almost threw out food on the table. The fried food was pretty good thou

I decided to try this place for the first time and made a pick up order. It was a waste of $25 for my family. The fries were undercooked for my daughter's kids meal. Everything we had had no flavor. Not the chicken, rice, or even the sauce! Please don't waste your time coming here. It's in a nice area but not worth your time.

I really enjoyed and always enjoy eating at this restaurant. They have the best pad Thai and egg drop soup. I've been eating it for years love this place since I was a kid. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

I haven’t been into this restaurant and have no desire to. During lunch period, an employee of the restaurant will stand outside to catch anyone parking across the street. Granted, that parking area has the restaurant’s sign on it. I was trying to get a haircut at the salon next to the parking area. The restaurant employee followed me into the salon to tell me I shouldn’t park there. Then he pointed at the few parking spaces in front of the salon where I can park. Except for one problem: those spaces are full. Is he helpful? No. I continued watching him while waiting for my haircut. He repeated this 3 other times, entering into other establishments and telling their customers where they shouldn’t park. So if he’s out there doing that, who’s serving the customers in the restaurant? Who’s taking the orders, preparing the food and serving them?? Thanks for letting us know. Now everyone knows.

This place was beyond expectation. The food was fantastic, our waiter(Armondo) was excellent, and they even had cute little good luck charms to purchase. Someone at the table next to us had a birthday, and they brought him a free charm🖤 too cool. The price, quality, atmosphere and charm is definitely worth the visit. Would recommend to anyone

Hung Fong is my favorite Chinese Food restaurant. Ever since i was a teenager, my family has been coming here at least once a month. Now some 30 years later an adult, I still frequently come here to eat. And the food is just as good as back then. And the artwork is very unusual but very beautiful. So if you get the chance to visit Hung Fongs on Broadway, im sure you will enjoy eating here as well.

Wonton soup is the best I've had anywhere, even their sister restaurant. Love the egg rolls and chicken chow mein.

Food was decent but not mind blowing. Everything they had tasted just okay. Not bad and it was pretty cheap while also satisfying for how much you got, but I wouldn't put it in my best chinese restaurants. Also the service there was underwhelming, waited half and hour just to have someone pick up the check. I think most people would also feel satisfied enough and that this restaurant is okay, but not in much hurry to go back.

Asked for orange chicken with extra sauce (ON THE SIDE) and extra rice noodles , chicken and noodles were soggy

I hate to leave 1 star reviews for businesses but I have to today. I ordered two meals for pick up, they told me it would be ready in 15 minutes. Well I arrived in 5 and my food was magically in a bag waiting for me already. I thought cool, quick service! Well when I arrived at home I immediately noticed that my chicken was awful. It looked like it might have been sitting there for a while and they just boxed it up for my order to go. I can’t even describe it. It looked mushy and undercooked. It was half cold , half warm. I lost my appetite after two bites of it. I hadn’t been there in a long time, I remember the food being better. In their defense, I didn’t give them a chance to make it right. I didn’t go back or complain about the order to them. But they should have not served that food to me or anyone. It was gross.

It's my first time to try this restaurant and to my surprise I was overly delighted by their service and great tasting food. No wonder they lasted the test of time. I'll definitely be back again with more foodies with me.

First time visit, and the food did not disappoint me, it was delicious. I've driven pass this restaurant, many times and it took a friend to point it out and take me in. So glad, the meal was great, nice portions, well flavored. Parking is available in back.

They're proud of their restaurant score and its displayed prominently when you walk in. The food is good, and isn't greasy. We ordered a pu pu platter and it's a meal in itself. The staff is attentive and you'll find all your favorite Chinese meals on the menu. The decor is dated, but you can tell they put their heart and soul in the food. Plus you can buy all the good luck dash ornaments and bamboo plants your heart desires!
